I really started hiking in Anthem. Growing up in South Dakota, horses, tractors and pickup trucks were my methods of movement (i.e. not on foot). With numerous moves with the US Air Force and American Airlines, I primarily biked and ran. At Anthem, I joined the hike club on a climb up Camelback, and have been a regular Club hiker since. I also lead "off the books" hikes thru the summer, concentrating on some of the more challenging AZ hikes/climbs. My goal is to climb the 20 highest climb-able peaks in AZ. Last summer, we logged the 5 highest north of Phoenix, including Humphrey, and plan to concentrate on the peaks south and east of Phoenix this summer. I also am CPR and First Aid certified.
I grew up on the flat lands of the mid-west and have hiked now most of my adult life. I lived in Colorado for a few years and got hooked on 14’ers – those were fun times. My favorite hike (so far) is the Grand Canyon. Where else can you hike DOWN for so many hours and then have a cold beer?! It’s a special place in so many ways 😊 I am certified in First Aid and CPR. I love the energy of this group! Always fun, ready to hike and enjoy the great outdoors.
I grew up in the Midwest and was a flatlander for most of my life but have always liked being outdoors and tried to stay fit by jogging and biking. When we purchased our home in Anthem (2013), we started to do a little hiking and I liked it, so I started going out with the Anthem Hiking club. It’s been a great way to meet and get to know neighbors while having fun exploring trails that I may not have tried on my own. I have trained in first aid and CPR.
I have had the good fortune to hike many places around the world. I moved to Anthem in 2002 and started as a hike leader at Anthem CC in 2004. I have really enjoyed being part of the team and, most of all, the camaraderie and the fun of getting to know so many people in the Club. One of my favorite hikes is the Grand Canyon: you never get enough of the beauty that surrounds you and the challenge of the hike. I am trained in Basic First Aid and CPR. Bring your imagination and smiles, we will have Happy Trails!
